[edit] What goes on at BarCamp

BarCamps are participant driven unconferences. This means that the planners (there are no Organisers!) don't do much except for putting the logistics together and making sure that the D day passes smoothly. The big part is of course the content and that's completely decided by participants.

So come up with the topics that you would like to discuss and also get the word out to folks of similar interests. The logistics distribution is completely dependent upon the number of participants interested in a particular topic. This means that the more you partcipate and help build participation, the more you get out of it.

Some examples of areas that have been discussed in past barcamps in India (Feel free to add what you'd like at BCM3):

  • Technolgies such as PHP, python, ruby, MySql etc
  • User interface design - basic principles, scripting, RIA - AJAX, Flex etc
  • Mobile - WAP, J2ME, IVR etc
  • New product launches/alpha sign ups pitches from start ups - web 2.0, mobile, embedded etc
  • Blogging - aggregation, topics, trends, tips on tools such as wordpress, podcasting etc
  • Open source - licensing schemas, why open source, new contributions etc
  • Social networking - Facebook apps, mobile social networking, Indian sites etc
  • Hobby topics - photography, cycling etc
  • Social/egovernance - role of NGOs, rural tech/governance etc
  • startups and fundaes..
  • Management sessions (please no tech in this part.)
  • Anybody for QR code and developments regarding the same.
  • Core R&D project discussion like Artificial Intelligence, Neural network and Search engines.
  • Micro-blogging - do we have 'Twitters' in India?
  • Service oriented startups- hi-tech entertaintment restaurants/commercial or entertainment zones
  • Wi-Fi business ventures.
  • Airline Start - Up, Pilgrimage Tourism
  • Voice over IP - Use of VoIP for Computer Telephony Integration
  • Financial Concept Design and Engineering of Large Infrastructure Projects ... A critical business need in India
  • Seo(Search Engine Optimization) - Blogging, learning, earning & SE optimization
  • Seo and generating Free Traffic - The Secret of Seo techniques, Be ready for Free traffic towards your blogs and How to optimize your blog in a legitimate way


To reiterate, anything under the sun can be discussed at a BarCamp as long as its not illegal. What actually gets discussed is upto the participants. Its your camp. Come and make it.
